As you are aware, Diocesan Synod is approaching. Though there are always many prayer requests and lists, I would encourage you in your own prayer and in public worship to begin praying for the Synod and the preparations for it. I commend the collect from the BCP to you:

Almighty and everlasting God, who by thy Holy Spirit didst preside in the Council of the blessed Apostles, and hast promised, through thy son Jesus Christ, to be with thy Church to the end of the world: We beseech thee to be present with the Synod of this Diocese of Athabasca to be assembled in thy Name. Save its members from all error, ignorance, pride, and prejudice; and of thy great mercy vouchsafe so to direct, govern and sanctify them in their deliberations by thy Holy Spirit, that through thy blessing the Gospel of Christ may be faithfully preached and obeyed, the order and discipline of thy Church maintained, and the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour enlarged and extended. Grant this, we beseech thee, through the merits and mediation of the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In Preparation for Synod

To all clergy and parishes:
There are a few things that we would like to share with you.

1. The registration fee for synod will be $125.00  this cost reflects the fact that St. Peter’s church is not completed as expected and we will be using the college for the meetings.  The meals will be catered and our guest speaker (Michael Harvey) will be coming from England.  Event venue is Northern Lakes College – 1201 Main Street – Slave Lake
2. The convening circulars should be in the mail on September 13 to arrive to delegates on September 15th.
3. Parishioners in all parishes are invited and encouraged to come and listen to Michael Harvey who will be with us all day on Friday.  The cost for this will be $40.00/person which includes lunch and supper.
4. Banquet tickets (for Saturday evening) will be available to all delegates (included with registration fee) and guests will be asked to pay $20.00/person.  The local organizing committee has asked that delegates (if possible)come with skits or music to share for Saturday evening after the Banquet.
5. Parishes are reminded that they are to report on intentional listening and or listening in the Word as presented at “It’s Harvest Time” . This should be in the format of a five minute oral presentation.  Luke 10: 1-12
6. Rooms will be blocked for our event at the following hotels:
   1. Holiday Inn Express (1551 Main Street, visible from the highway and walking distance to location of Friday to Sunday event, 780-849-4819) (please book by October 4th), a breakfast included in their rates which are $120-130.
   2. Super 8 Motel (hwy2 and Main Street, visible from the highway and walking distance to location of Friday to Sunday event, 780-805-3100 OR 1800-800-8000), a breakfast in their rates which are $110-130..
   3. The Sawridge Inn (1200 Main Street, walking distance to location of Friday to Sunday event, 780-849-4101 OR 1-888-729-7343). There are 25 Rooms under St. Peter’s Ecumenical for Arriving October 14th 2010 and departing on October 17th 2010. They have booked 15 Non-Smoking rooms and 10 Smoking rooms. When people call in to reserve a room for themselves they can ask for one of the rooms under St. Peter’s Ecumenical. All rooms are $109.00 + tax and breakfast is included with this rate. All rooms that have not been spoken for by September 30th 2010 will be released that night.  1200 Main Street South  Slave Lake
7. Sorry billets will not be offered at this time but we are trying to have that changed.
