Deaneries and Parishes

The Diocese of Athabasca is divided into two geographical sections:  on the west, the Peace River Region and on the east, the Athabasca Region.  Serving these regions in an advisory capacity are the Regional Deans.

Deanery of Peace River

The Peace River Deanery stretches from Fort Vermillion/Rainbow lake in the north to Grande Prairie in the South, and from the British Columbia border in the West to Faust in the East. The Sea city for the Diocese of Athabasca, Peace River is in this Deanery. The largest center is Grande Prairie

Deanery of Athabasca

The Athabasca Region extends from Fort Chipewyan in the far northeastern corner of the diocese down to Lac La Biche in the southeastern corner and then westward through the towns of Boyle, Athabasca and Slave Lake.  There are eleven congregations in this region serving in excess of 120,000 people.  The largest centre is the city of Fort McMurray, the oil capital of Canada.  In addition, the Athabasca Region possesses the oldest Anglican Church building still active in the province of Alberta (Fort Chipewyan), a thriving Anglican-Lutheran-United Church congregation (Slave Lake) and a growing indigenous ministry (Wabasca).
